Favorite Spots on Earth #7

Mt. Cotopaxi; Quito, Ecuador

This is an interesting one for me in that Cotopaxi is a place I've seen but not yet been to.  Quito is an amazing city full of amazing people and there is so much natural beauty, often in the midst of abject poverty.  Pollution is so strong in Quito that I often found myself blowing soot from my nose.  The weather is beautiful and its a bit surreal to be cold while standing literally on the equator (have done that twice and been cold both times--one in Quito, the other in Nairobi).  All that to say I certainly love Quito, buts its Cotopaxi a mountian just 50 miles south of Quito that truly intrigues me.

I felt like that everytime I looked for Cotopaxi along the Quito skyline (and it was often), the mountain was taunting me, daring me to attempt a climb.  Theres something a magical about a mountain thats snow covered 365 days a year that  sits in the shadow of the equator (and Mount Kenya fits that bill as well).  So one of the days I'm hoping to return to a favorite place, Quito, Ecuador, and climb my 7th favorite place, Cotopaxi.

So there you go with spot #7....Cotopaxi...the lure of a mountain waiting to be climbed.
