Saboba, Ghana, West Africa/Baptist Guest House, Accra, Ghana

I got a phone call this morning from a dear friend letting me know that my little village is currently an island.  Because a neighboring nation (Burkina Faso) decided to open their dams....my little village, Saboba, is isolated from the rest of the world.  Pray for those guys!

Ok, so I can't really seperate these two places so they come together as a tie on this list because I can't think of one without thinking of the other.  I'll treat them seperate for a moment though...The Baptist Guest House (owned and operated by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention) is just an amazing place.  Located just a few minutes from the Accra Airport, the BGH is at any given time serving as the home away from home for missionaries from all over the world.  I've met missionaries from Canada, Germany, other parts of Africa, all over the States, a French missionary to Messianic Jews in Africa (figure that one out) and yes even one of the greatest friends I'll ever have all in that place...the food is incredible...Jimmy and Sylvia Huey, the managers, are amazing....the showers are wonderful (although Jimmy claims its just because of the need for a shower I seem to have)....the diet cokes are in a glass bottle and COLD....the airconditioner works great....Frankie's and Papaye's deliver....wow...

And of course the BGH is for me a gateway to get to that magical village of Saboba...As much as a 20 hour drive north of Accra, on the Tobo border, lies a simple little village that holds my heart.  Saboba has changed so much since I've first visited...there is now a cell tower so there's no longer a need to drive a half hour out of the village and climb up on the top of a van on top a hill to make a phone call...theres internet (in one place, sometimes) and they even putting in street lights...but in so many ways Saboba is just a simple little village but yes it holds my heart...the people are so eager and loving...God is doing so many amazing things in the face of abject poverty...and life is just simple and good....I've seen God use me to do God-sized things in that village...I've seen lives changed....and most of all I've learned in that little place that the local church really is the hope of the world....

So there you go with spot #2..Saboba and BGH Accra...where my heart lies in the dark continent
