I like the movie...but the book is better

I have been a fan of producer Mark Burnett since the day I first discovered an amazing show called "EcoChallenge". Then I get super pumped when I read in The Dallas Morning News about an upcoming show that seemed really cool called "Survivor" Since then I've enjoyed "The Apprentice", "Shark Tank" and even the occasional "Are you smarter than a fifth grader?" I realize there are a lot of people who don't like reality television but I'm a fan...and you can't talk about reality tv without talking about Mark Burnett. Having said all that, I was intrigued to hear that Burnett and his wife actress Roma Downey (I confess I've completely missed her career) were working on a miniseries on The BIble. As a believer first and as a Burnett fan a distant second, this combination really intrigued me. I missed week one, but was able to check out week two last night. My take: pretty amazing. Burnett is able to really make the word come alive. He edits events amazingly well...keeping them family friendly while still maintaining the truth of the Word (David's presentation to Saul for example). Some of the portrayals aren't at all how I've always pictured them...but I came to realize...hey, they could have happened that way. I loved the portrayal of Jonathan and David, and wasn't so crazy about Samuel or Saul. Still its incredibly intriguing television (and since its ratings are higher than Duck Dynasty other people must agree) and as good of a dramatization of scripture as I've ever seen...but the book is better. So often, the truest statements come from young mouths and one little guy's assessment is truer than anything I can offer as to the way of perspective..."The movie's good, but the book is better." The book is better because the book is alive. The book is a person...the one who created the universe...the one who carved out the oceans and painted the stars in the sky. The book has always been and always will be. Everything I need for life can be found in those pages. In difficult periods of life (and I've come through one just now) I cling to His word. Two passages that have been incredibly meaning to me in this season are Exodus 14:14 and Genesis 50:20. I cling to the truth that word as I have nothing else to cling to....I cling to HIM. So yes the movie is excellent...Burnett is genius..but the book is better.

Love it! When I think about how exciting it is to read about Heaven in God's word, just imagine how much more amazing it will be when it comes to life for us! Been thinking abput that a lot lately.
