Mission statements

Mission statements

Several years ago, something that all businesses were trying to do was make sure they had a working "mission statement".  Here's a quick quiz of some famous companies mission statements.  Can you name them? (answer at the bottom)

1) "We create happiness by providing the finest in entertainment for people of all ages, everywhere."

2) "Everything we do is inspired by our enduring mission:

  • To Refresh the World... in body, mind, and spirit.
  • To Inspire Moments of Optimism... through our brands and our actions.
  • To Create Value and Make a Difference... everywhere we engage."

3) " to be the world's best quick service restaurant experience. Being the best means providing outstanding quality, service, cleanliness, and value, so that we make every customer in every restaurant smile."

4) " to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected."

5) "To produce high-quality, low cost, easy to use products that incorporate high technology for the individual. We are proving that high technology does not have to be intimidating for noncomputer experts."

So that leads me to thinking about me..what am I here for...what is my purpose.  For me personally, several years ago (probably when everyone was talking about mission statements) I felt led to the idea of "helping lost people find Christ and helping found people get completely lost in God's will for their lives."  Thats still true and its a challenging and difficult thing for me to live out everyday.  I also realize, however, that my mission statement is reflective of the unique ways that God wired me as opposed to the ways He may have wired others.  I am PASSIONATE about evangelism, and its been affirmed to me by others that its an area God gifted me in.  Others are gifted in mercy (not me for sure) or administration or hospitality.  So what is our mission statement as believers (something that rings true for all followers of Christ)?
Three things stand out this Monday morning:

1) We were created to bring glory to God (Isaiah 43:7)

2) We were created to be witnesses of His majesty (Acts 1:8)

3) We were created to be in community (Acts 2:42-47)

If we live in these three things (and its certainly not always easy to do so) I think we live the mission of the believer, and the mission of the church.  Thats my challenge for today at least....Happy Monday everybody.

1) Disney

2) Coca Cola

3) McDonalds

4) Facebook

5) Apple

Well, I only got McDonald's & Facebook. But, I certainly "get" the message. Thanks again for the challenge. I need it daily. At age 59, I finally "get" that I was not put here for ME. Better late than never!

Let the one who serves serve in the strength which God supplies that in everything God may get the glory through Jesus Christ.
